Brian Stafford, teaching the Introduction Uilleann pipes workshop.
Brian Stafford is a native of Derry and started playing Uileann Pipes at the age of 16 under the guidance of Finbar McLaughlin, quickly becoming an All-Ireland Champion at the 1979 Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann. He went on to tour with Quilty and, while resident in Great Britain, was a long term member of the seminal Welsh language band Yr Hwntws and Yorkshire-based ceili bands. Brian has also performed outside the traditional genere as part of the Jazz-based Arts Barge Ensemble in York and has toured in Switzerland and Romania as a uilleann pipes soloist with the Geneva International Christian Choir and Orchestra and Corul Deo Glori. Since returning to Ireland, Brian performed in many of Derry's City of Culture and Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2013 events and featured in the BBC UK City of Culture theme. Now resident once more in Derry, Brian is a regular participant in cross-community workshops in the North-West and tutors for Scoil Éigse, Na Píobairí Uileann and performs locally and abroad.
