Jana Mc Carthy-Kent, teaching the Introduction to Tin Whistle workshop.

Jana Mc Carthy-Kent is an accomplished musician in both Traditional Irish Music and Classical music having won many prestigious awards in both genres including All Ireland titles in the Fleadh Cheoil in Flute and Whistle and Winner of EBS Feis Cheoil on Classical flute. Jana has performed in the Fleadh Nua Ennis as part of a performance award in traditional music from Meitheal. She is the recipient of several scholarships in both classical and traditional including several scholarships to the RIAM .. One of the highlights of her time at the Academy was to be asked to perform for Sir James Galway in May 2016. Jana achieved her TTCT teaching Qualification in Tin Whistle/Flute to teach up to Advanced Levels in 2018 Jana has toured Ireland , Britain and Canada with National Comhaltas Tour Group. A great honour and great experience. Currently Jana is completing her Primary School teaching degree and is considering pursuing a Masters in Music Therapy in Irish Music into the future while continuing to develop her own personal playing style. Jana plays flute as a member of the National Folk Orchestra of Ireland and has performed on several occasions with them, playing the music of Tom Doorley in the marquee on two occasions at the All Ireland Fleadh Drogheda and at the Temple Bar Trad Fest.2020.
